Cloud Computing and Operating System virtualization represents a paradigm shift in the way we share and store information, and is changing the technology landscape. As an example, it’s hard not to love the convenience and ease of Goo and FB applications, but the lack of true data & identity ownership, along with the sacrifice of privacy & self-reliance is a high cost.

Though raw and extremely technical, this video demonstrates core components of the PLAN Data Model (PDM) up and running. It’s intended primarily for developers, technologists, and those with an appetite for discovery. This demo is an exciting milestone for us at PLAN Systems. From our perspective, it represents a shift to community owned distributed systems; meanwhile, the GUI/3D part of the prototype is in development (Unity) and will make its appearance next. That’s when we start to see the payoffs of the PDM begin to appear.

“What will these future distributed systems look like?” is a great question… but there are even more important question to answer first, such as: what’s going on behind the scenes with the data that you rely on, where does it reside, who owns it, is it accessible offline, what are the dependencies?
